SCOPE OF WORK

Comprehensive aerial mapping and quantification of concrete surface defects — spalling, cracking, and delamination — across all structure types.

Applicable Standards

ACI 318, ACI 546R, ACI 546.3R, ICRI 310.2R, ICRI 150.1R, ASTM C881, ASTM C928, ASTM C1202, ASTM C876, ASTM D4541, IBC Chapter 17

Condition Survey & Investigation
  • Hammer sounding of all concrete surfaces to map delaminated, hollow, and spalled areas on elevation drawings.
  • Crack survey classifying all cracks as structural or non-structural per ACI 224.1R with width and pattern measurement.
  • Chloride penetration testing (ASTM C1202) and carbonation depth testing where rebar corrosion is suspected.
  • Half-cell potential survey (ASTM C876) on parking decks and bridge decks to map active corrosion zones.
  • Written condition assessment report with deficiency maps submitted before work begins.
Surface Preparation
  • Remove all deteriorated concrete to sound substrate — minimum depth 1" beyond carbonation front.
  • Methods per ICRI 310.2R: hydro-demolition (CSP 6–8), pneumatic chipping (CSP 5–7), scarification/grinding (CSP 3–5).
  • Saw-cut all repair perimeters minimum 1/4" deep — no feathered edges permitted.
  • Clean exposed rebar to SSPC-SP 6 minimum; apply zinc-rich primer and corrosion inhibitor.
Partial-Depth Repair
  • Apply bonding agent to all prepared surfaces.
  • Place approved cementitious repair mortar; consolidate; match adjacent profile.
  • Cure minimum 7 days with wet burlap or curing compound.
  • Approved: Sika MonoTop 615/620, BASF MasterEmaco S 488, Mapei Planitop X, CTS Rapid Set.
Full-Depth Repair
  • Engineer of Record (EOR) approval required.
  • Provide shoring below repair area per EOR assessment.
  • Install new reinforcement per EOR design per ACI 318.
  • Place concrete per approved mix design (minimum 4,000 psi); cure 7 days minimum.
Crack Repair
  • Structural cracks (dry): low-pressure epoxy injection per ASTM C881 — ports at 6"–12" o.c.; inject bottom-up.
  • Active water cracks: hydrophilic polyurethane foam injection first; epoxy after water is stopped.
  • Non-structural cracks: rout 1/4" wide x 1/4" deep; install backer rod; seal with polyurethane sealant.
Protective Coatings

Apply anti-carbonation elastomeric coating at 2 coats minimum, 20 mil DFT, over all repaired and adjacent concrete. On parking decks: apply PUMA or urethane traffic coating per ASTM C957.
