SCOPE OF WORK

Precise aerial documentation of expansion joint conditions across roofs, decks, facades, and bridge structures with linear quantity takeoffs.

Applicable Standards

ASTM E119, UL 2079, ASTM E1399, ASCE 7 (seismic), ASTM C920, FM Global guidelines, local building codes

Expansion Joint Survey
  • Map all building expansion joint locations: floor-to-floor, wall-to-wall, floor-to-wall, roof-to-wall, parking deck.
  • Measure all joint widths; document existing cover assembly types and conditions.
  • Review structural drawings for anticipated thermal, seismic, and live-load joint movements.
System Selection
  • Verify joint movement capacity: new system must accommodate total building movement without stress.
  • Fire-rated joints: specify UL 2079 assembly matching required fire rating (1, 2, 3, or 4-hour).
  • Seismic joints: design per ASCE 7 drift requirements; large movement systems required in seismic zones C–F.
  • Traffic-bearing joints: specify vehicle load rating; nosing material for durability.
Installation
  • Remove all existing joint covers, seals, gaskets, and nosings; clean substrate to bare concrete or masonry.
  • Verify joint width matches system specification; adjust substrate if out of tolerance.
  • Install new expansion joint system per manufacturer sequence.
  • Fire-rated: install per UL-listed assembly instructions exactly.
Quality Control
  • Verify installed system movement capacity matches design requirement.
  • Water test horizontal and roof joints after installation; document results.
  • Document all UL assembly numbers and installation photos at close-out.
